Forbidden Lessons by Noël Cades

Genre:
School-Girl/Teacher Romance

Synopsis:
When 18-year-old Laura first sees her new German teacher her world is turned upside down. She can’t get Mr Rydell out of her mind. Is it coincidence that she keeps bumping into him outside class or does he share her feelings? He’s totally forbidden fruit. But the two of them are soon breaking every rule.

My Review:
Noël does an excellent job of getting inside the head of a teenager who is falling in love. I could really feel Laura's insecurities, inexperience, and obsessive-like excitement. Noël also captures the environment of grade-school girls perfectly by describing their cliques, and the drama between the cliques. However, what I enjoyed the most about this story was the fist sexual encounter between Mr. Rydell and Laura. It was hot! And only made more-so with Noël's careful structure of the character's environment. This is a great read for those who enjoy taboo in their erotica.

Author Interview:
Can you describe your book in one sentence?
Boarding-school pupil Laura embarks on an illicit relationship with her devastatingly hot German teacher, Mr Rydell.

What makes your book so different from all the books out there?
There aren’t as many books set in the UK that deal with the student-teacher romance theme as there are set in the US, so that’s one thing. I included a glossary of boarding-school terms at the end in case readers were unfamiliar with them. It’s also kind of based on a true story, certain elements actually happened, though (sadly!) not the central relationship. Several of us had a crush on a hot teacher in my schooldays, and writing the book was an exploration of what might have happened if our fantasy had come true.

What was your favorite chapter (or part) to write and why?
Writing about when the hero mistakenly gets jealous and then makes sure she still wants him and only him by giving her the hardest, best sex ever was fun.

For those who might consider reading your book, what would you tell them to expect?
It’s a taboo love affair as it happens between a student and a teacher. She’s a virgin and when they finally cross the line things get hot and heavy pretty instantly. He’s more dominant and in control as the older partner, and quite demanding of her sexually, but he’s also desperately in love with her. He pushes her limits but it’s always enjoyable for her.

Where do you get your ideas/inspiration for your writing?
Many of them from things in my own past or just real life generally. Writing is a great way to explore wish fulfilment and experiment with your own fantasies. And of course reading is critical as well. You might read a novel and think: "if only this had happened" and then you realise you have a new book or plot idea.

How did you bring life to your characters?
Before and during the process of writing a book, I find the characters come into my head and rehearse scenes. Often they reel off quite lengthy dialogue. Sometimes it’s a snatch of conversation that I struggle to find a place for, other times it’s a key scene. Obviously my subconscious is doing this, I don’t mean the characters are actually real/living inside my head like elves, but when you get into that kind of imagination zone they sort of bring themselves to life.

How did you come up with your title?
The title was perhaps the easiest part, it combines the idea of learning about sex with being at school and still having lessons.

Is there any particular author or book that influenced you in any way either growing up or as an adult?
Victoria Holt was a popular writer when I was younger. My favourite, The Time of the Hunter’s Moon contains a scene when the somewhat villainous hero tries to have his way with the heroine by "forcing off her coat". That was really sexy and exciting, even though nothing actually happened (she escaped on that occasion!) But just the tension and the need and the danger… I think that set a pattern for me and my writing.

What was the process with getting the cover for your book? How do you like it?
The cover features the setting of an old-fashioned classroom, similar to some of the ones from my childhood, with a hot couple. The image needed to show the man’s superior size, strength and dominance yet also that he cares about her. It gives a good sense of the tone and subject, so I’m happy with it.

Will you have a new book coming out soon? Can you tell us about it?
Summer’s Edge is my next erotic romance. It’s set in the UK in 1992, the year of illegal raves and free parties. Against this background of hedonism and wild partying Alice is trying to do her A-levels (final high school exams) while falling madly in lust and love with her school cricket coach, who’s absolutely off-limits as an older guy and a member of the teaching staff.
