A Feather's Kiss by Brooklyn Burke

Genre:
Foot Fetish/BDSM

Smashwords Description:
A Feather’s Kiss is a collection of stories that delve into an erotic world of bondage, fetishism and sexual and psychological teasing. In these well-written and descriptive stories the reader will meet people caught in very ticklish situations and those more than willing to exploit their helplessness. From the devilish mind of Brooklyn Burke. Are you a giver or receiver of the Feathers Kiss?

Author Interview:
What made you want to write erotica?
When I first wanted to write I didn’t know what to write about. I knew as a songwriter that I could work with and turn words but I had a desire to write real stories. I’ve always had a vivid and delightfully diabolical imagination so I thought a good way to start out and “learn” how to write would be to try and commit my fantasies to paper. The first batch, contained in “A Feather’s Kiss”, turned out reasonably well and met with positive reviews from those I shared them with so, I thought I would share them with others. Also, I thought, why not take what I spent a lot of time and effort creating and try and make a few dollars?! If I could it would encourage me to write more. After a few rewrites and edits I published this book and hope to do others.

Did you always know you wanted to be a writer?
Well, like I’ve said, I began as a song writer and always loved that. I’ve always loved to read and am a pretty internal person and, therefore, spend a lot of time in my “own little world”. I’ve had so many stories and ideas floating around in my head that I knew that I couldn’t get them all out by writing songs so, I guess I always knew.

What does your writing area look like?
I write mainly on my laptop so it’s all over the house or out on the patio.

Anything you want to say to your readers?
My hope is that you will love the situations I describe and the detail in which I do. My stories are little vignettes about people in situations or scenes that I hope will titillate the readers as they visualize the scenes; whether from the protagonists or the victim’s point of view. Although my stories are generally of the “spy-vs-spy” or revenge or interrogation motif there is no real hatred or evil in the stories. I’d like you to perhaps imagine you’re in the scene with someone who turns you on or you find attractive or have something off a rivalry with.

Is there a genre you could never write? Which and why?
Probably “Romance”. My stories are fantasy scenes, the meat-and-potatoes, where-in the scene and situation is set-up and the fun begins. I don’t care for a mushy story about aching hearts and shattered dreams. My stories are a 10 to 20 minute read that I hope will make you horny as hell and help you get off! LOL! Having said that, however, I like to think that the stories are well-written and realistic enough so that you can really get lost in them.

Where do you get your ides/inspiration for your book?
From inside my head. I’m in every one of my stories although using a different name, of course. These are all fantasies that I’ve envisioned over the years, usually a situation, that I build a story around, i.e. how did the damsel come to be “in distress” or how did I find myself in this situation.

How hard is it to come up with characters?
My characters are almost always myself and people I’ve been attracted too over the years. If I am the protagonist of the story (as a character) my “victim” will never be hurt because it is not in my nature to cause too-much pain. Of course there might be spanking or pinching, etc. but not as torture! If my character is the victim I like to imagine not knowing what I am about to be put through or how much I will suffer. The characters are often fantasy versions of real people.

Do you work with an outline, or just write?
My story begins as a picture in my head; a situation I find myself in or find someone else in. After I focus it I begin to imagine what led up to it and then start writing. Because I’m not writing long, drawn-out novels I don’t really need to do an outline. Although, as the stories progress I will often go back and change things and edit if I find the story going in a certain direction.

What was the process with getting the cover for your book? How do you like it?
I did it myself and I think it came out pretty damn good! LOL I had a very limited budget and needed to come up with something that would convey what was inside. Plus, I think there’s something terribly sexy about bare feet. Something very erotic about their sensitivity and vulnerability. I wanted a feather on the cover but then thought why not feet too! I think it came out pretty good, no? lol

What was your favorite part when writing your book?
Well, as anyone who’s written erotica knows and especially who verbalizes their fantasies, it’s seeing the fantasies come to life! There’s something very satisfying about building scenes and creating dialogue between the characters when you write. In an interrogation fantasy, for example, the fantasy might be just what the interrogator is doing to the prisoner but when the scene is written out the dialogue and scene description adds so much more to it!

What was the hardest part when writing your book?
Keeping both hands on the keyboard during the “hottest” parts! LOL! (sorry…couldn’t resist)

For those who might consider reading your book, what would you tell them to expect?
For those of you who like this particular genre they should expect great detail, great dialogue and very hot scenes. I expect them to read a story every night and then have amazing dreams but, I don’t expect them to be able to stop after each story! They will be too tempted to keep reading. Lol. For those who haven’t thought much about what I write about I hope it will open their eyes and let them think about the acts I describe and see them in new light.

My Review:
Burke is a master of writing detail. She does not gloss over any part. Yet, she does so in such a way to bring you into her stories. Speaking of which, I am impressed with the variety of circumstances she has imagined for her various protagonists. Burke structures her stories such that her characters unwittingly get themselves into precarious circumstances, and then people take advantage of them. However, within this structure, she has come up with a large variety such that no two stories are alike. Additionally, Burke spends a decent amount of time creating her settings and her characters before delving into her sex scenes, adding an additional layer of interest in her stories that I don't see in much erotica. Given that these short stories revolve around foot fetishes, if you're someone who is not into feet, then this book would probably not be for you. But if you're curious to learn more about this fetish, then this would be an excellent source! Also, if you find feet erotic to any degree, then you will find this an arousing read!

Disclaimer: I was given this book in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Brook!
